ISO is moving forward with the development of an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system standard. This standard will be designated ISO 45001.
The title of the standard is Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use. The guidance in the Annex will focus on interpreting the requirements set out in the standard, like the annex to ISO 14001.

Since this is being developed as an ISO management system standard, it will need to conform with the requirements set out in Annex SL of the ISO Directives.
The Annex SL requirements are in the ISO/IEC Directives Part 1. (click here for more information)
NOTE – To download and review Annex SL, scroll down on the ISO “Directives and Policies” page and click on the link to the ISO/IEC Directives Part 1 under the Official Rules column. Annex SL starts on page 120.

ISO 45001 Terminology
One of the challenges in drafting ISO 45001 is developing terminology around the “people” terms in the standard. Click here if you would like to download a guide to what persons the various terms used in ISO 45001 are intended to include. You can also use this as a handy guide when reading through the standard for understanding the requirements set out for an OH&S management system.
